JOB PURPOSE   This is a leadership role overseeing the Fastmarkets division risk & compliance function. Principal Analyst – Battery Raw Materials BACKGROUND Fastmarkets is Euromoney’s commodities price reporting, information and events business. It is growing rapidly. Its business serves the global metals, minerals forest-products, and agriculture markets. The business also runs events for the agriculture markets (Global Grain). Historically a news-led subscription business, the strategy is to evolve the operation into a pricing-led data business. Fastmarkets encompasses the historic brands of Metal Bulletin, American Metal Market, RISI, FOEX, Random Lengths and AgriCensus. These storied brands, the oldest dating back to 1874, are leading names in commodity pricing in the global metals, mining, and forest product markets.   Building on our existing biofuels and battery raw materials data, Fastmarkets is launching a suite of renewable energy data products that enable companies, organizations and economies in their critical transition to a low-carbon future.   Job purpose This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate eager to help leading companies and governments transition to a low carbon, sustainable future by collecting, analyzing and delivering the data and insights that our clients need to navigate this change. The Principal Analyst will lead our research and team in the battery raw materials market for EV and ESS batteries, including lithium, cobalt, manganese, graphite and nickel, along with analysis on recycling technology development. The Principal Analyst takes direct responsibility for the overall house view, through their management of the team, overseeing data collection and analysis, developing and producing medium and long term forecasts for batter raw materials, and coordinating with our short-term prices and predictions to provide a coherent picture of supply, demand, capacity, costs and key trends and drivers.    The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and innovative environment, have a can-do attitude, advice and can juggle a wide variety of tasks and projects.   Principal accountabilities - Identifies necessary data inputs and oversees procurement, collection, cleaning, validating for forecasting EV and ESS battery raw materials, including lithium, cobalt, manganese, graphite and nickel - Develops, produces and updates house forecasts for EV and ESS battery raw materials, including supply, demand, capacity, cost, and other critical metrics. - Manages a team of Senior Analysts and Analysts in particular market sector(s) to ensure that content is delivered on time and to the highest standards and in line with our strategy - Mentors other members of the team - Supplements forecast model with content creation on the battery raw material market, technology development, regulatory policy development, supply, demand, capacity, trade and other trends that impact the industry. - Oversees delivery of content and data through visualisation programmes and new platforms in order to meet requirements of defined market segments - Controls input to our products from internal and external contributors to guarantee timely and coherent updates for our customers - Manages client and internal enquiries about the markets and accountable for fulfilment of requests for insight and data for presentations and interviews - Uses their network to identify opportunities for single-client projects - Works with the head of consulting on projects by interacting with clients, helping specify and design studies which deliver to client needs, undertaking primary and secondary research, and supporting delivery. - Partners with Fastmarkets Events producers to develop compelling event programs, leverage relationships in the marketplace to recruit external speakers, and present forecast content on stage Organisation chart Reports to Head of Research Part of a global content team of 90   Key interfaces - Working with product management on the development of market-driven product - Strong relationship with Data Scientist to improve efficiency and quality of data delivery and management, and improve forecasting techniques - Supports Head of Research in appraising and managing team performance - Sales, Marketing, Events and Senior Management in order to ensure there is constructive feedback about the development of our services and how they fit with the strategy of the business Strong external relationships with market participants  - Editorial, marketing and sales   Knowledge, experience and skills - In-depth knowledge of markets including lithium, cobalt, manganese, graphite and nickel - Working knowledge of battery recycling technology and process flowsheets, such as pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy - Excellent writing and verbal skills - Confident with presenting at industry events, etc. - Capacity to speak on the record to the media about market developments - Able to foster and develop relationships in the relevant industry                                                                                                                                                                                            - Comfortable with coaching of junior colleagues                                                                                                                                                                        - Collaborative team player                                                                     - Leadership qualities, especially in forming a view - In depth experience in commodity analysis, ideally in the relevant field of research - Excellent data management skills. Fundamental knowledge of relational databases, APIs and data automation. - Comprehensive understanding of statistical foundations, particularly with regards to time series data and forecasting. - Strong analytical/mathematical/econometric modelling - Appreciation of advanced statistical modelling and forecasting, some exposure to machine learning a plus. Able to critically assess statistical analyses and forecast models and suggest improvements. - Excellent data visualisation skills. Some knowledge of advanced data visualisation packages/frameworks beyond Excel (e.g. PowerBI).
